Hurricanes Bring Rainy Days

Hurricane Joaquin is slowly making its way up the border, not making landfall thankfully, but as it creeps up, my town is hit with wind and rain. My grandma is up with us for the weekend, as her house is on the water and they are expecting flooding. I’m trying to focus and do something productive, like read or do homework. Instead, I’m lying in bed watching Criminal Minds and typing up this blog post. I may make chocolate chip cookies later, because what is a rainy day without milk and cookies? I have another poem I’d like to share with you guys!

Hurricane
Vicious sheets of rain,
a blast of cold wind,
whipping ’round,
leaves blowing up and transforming,
beautiful colors turning dull
as the hurricane descends upon its prey.

Obviously, it’s inspired by the hurricane today. I hope you enjoy! Since I have very little else to do, I’ll probably write more today. To all on the east coast, stay safe this weekend!

First Blog Post!

I am sitting on my bed in the dark, a purring cat sprawled out over my pillows, blearily blinking at the computer as I try to write this post. Well, here’s a summary of why I made this blog: my mom. She’s always telling me to get my thoughts out there, so here they are. I will be posting poetry, my random thoughts, quotes from school, and perhaps some essays I like. For a sample of my poetry, here’s one of my favorites:

The Box
First it was just my fingers
that I detached from my body to fit,
then my arms,
my legs,
my smile,
then finally
I ripped my heart out of my body
to fit into the box you have put me in.

Since I am literally falling asleep as I type this, I think I’ll hit the hay.

Goodnight all!
